Lately, there has been an abundance of news regarding the Chrysler Group’s future plans. About a month ago, the automaker’s CEO Sergio Marchionne told reporters that the Chrysler Group would stop selling duplicate offerings to provide each of its brands a stronger and more unique lineup.
As part of the firm’s revised plan, Marchionne said at the time that the company would only offer a replacement for the Chrysler Town & Country discarding the Grand Caravan from Dodge’s range.
And while that may be true for the U.S. market, the Detroit News is reporting today that the Dodge Grand Caravan will most likely live on in Canada, which would not get the next Town & Country.
The reason for this decision is that, while in the United States the Town & Country outsells the Grand Caravan approximately 2 to 1, it’s an entirely different story in Canada where the Dodge model outstrips its Chrysler minivan sibling by an astonishing 10-to-1!
“If we go to one minivan, it would certainly be the Dodge Grand Caravan in Canada, but the Town & Country resonates more strongly here in the U.S., so that’s going to be the van in the U.S.,” said Reid Biglund, head of the Dodge brand.
“There’s just so much equity in the Caravan name in Canada,” he added.
The next Chrysler Town & Country is expected to be introduced within the next two years.
