As some of you readers rightly pointed out in our post on the upcoming 2013 Acura ILX compact sedan, the TSX is not Acura’s cheapest offering in North America. This dazzling title goes to the Canadian market CSX.

It doesn’t take much to see that the CSX and the previous, eighth generation of the Honda Civic sedan are one and alike minus some discreet styling changes at the front and at the rear, and a more posh interior with all the extras ticked.

Introduced in late 2005, the CSX received some minor upgrades over the years most notable of which was Acura’s beak-like grille in 2009.

It was initially offered with a single engine option, a 2.0-liter iVTEC with 155HP, but in 2007, Acura revealed a sportier Type-S model featuring Honda’s 2.4-liter four-banger with 197HP. The Type S model was dropped from the lineup in 2010. Currently, the CSX is offered only with the 155HP 2.0-liter unit.

The CSX is only available and built in Canada with prices starting from CA$24,190 [US$23,610]. For references purposes, in Canada, the Acura TSX starts from CA$31,890 and the 2012 Honda Civic from CA$14,190 (with a 140HP 1.8L engine).

It is believed that the upcoming Acura ILX, which will be show in Detroit in January 2012, will be based on the Civic, though we still don’t know if it will be a similar proposal to the CSX or an entirely different model that simply shares its platform with Honda’s compact model.
