It would be hard to believe a few years back, but today, Cadillac and Mercedes-Benz make two of the wackiest high-performance family cars available in the States.

We’re talking about the $64,340 Cadillac CTS-V Wagon and the even pricier $94,075 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG Estate. Though very similar in philosophy, the two cars have their differences.

The CTS-V measures 191.3-inches (4,859mm) long and offers a cargo capacity of 25.4 cu ft. It is powered by a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 that’s good for 556 horsepower and 551 lb-ft (746Nm) of torque. A 6-speed manual delivers power to the rear wheels while the wagon tips the scales at 4,353 pounds (1,974kg).

The Mercedes E63 AMG Estate is 193.4-inches long (4,913mm) and has a boot volume of 29.0 cu ft. Power comes from a twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V8 engine producing 518hp and 516 lb-ft (699Nm) of torque, matched to a 7-speed automatic. It weighs 4510 pounds (2,046 kg).

Motor Trend took the two cars for a test drive that included a trip to the drag strip. See how it went down in the video that follows.
