One of the most prominent personalities in the automobile and racing car industry of the 20th century, the legendary Enzo Ferrari, finally has his own museum.

Built next to Enzo’s birth town in Modena Italy, the new Museo Casa Enzo Ferrari is not affiliated with the brand itself that has its own established Museo Ferrari at Maranello.

The project cost some €18 million (US$23.6 million) and was mostly financed by local authorities that hope it will draw up to 200,000 visitors a year boosting the regional economy.

Famous architect Jan Kaplicky designed the modern building in 2003. However, after Kaplicky’s death in 2009, his former colleague in the firm Future Systems, Andrea Morgante, completed the structure that is inspired by Ferrari’s cars.

In the museum, aside from Enzo’s personal belongings, there is also a wing housing contemporary and classic Ferrari automobiles.

If you follow the jump, you’ll find a video from Deutsche Welle that toured the museum on the opening day.
