While most of the attention at SsangYong’s stand at the Geneva Motor Show was focused on the XIV-2 Convertible concept, the South Korean firm also presented the 2012 edition of its Korando crossover updated with new powertrains and some minor styling tweaks.
SsangYong is expanding the range of the Korando with the addition of a new base 2.0-liter turbo diesel engine that produces 149PS (147bhp) and brings CO2 emissions down to 147g/km in the 2WD, manual model, and 157g/km in the AWD, manual variant.
The Korando also gets a revised 2.0-liter petrol engine that produces CO2 emissions of 175g/km (2WD, manual) and 192g/km (AWD, manual). SsangYong has not yet announced performance figures for this powerplant.
The company said that both engines will be offered in Europe this summer.
Other mechanical updates include revised gearing for all diesel variants and an enhanced transmission control system.
Cosmetic changes are limited on the outside to a chrome-coated mesh radiator grille and newly styled wiper blades, while inside, you’ll find an improved LED illuminated instrument cluster, new carbon grain pattern trim and high gloss finish for the switchgear.
