In today’s recall roundup, BMW and the Chrysler Group have announced two new safety recall campaigns concerning the 2012 3-Series and the Town and Country and Dodge Caravan people carriers on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
We will begin with the Bavarian automaker that issued a recall of approximately 7,600 3-Series models built from October 19, 2011, through March 18, 2012, over an issue with the front seat head restraints.
According to the NHTSA, the restraints do not comply with the federal motor vehicle safety standard No.202A as they exceed the downward movement limit of 25mm in the highest position and could injure a passenger in the event of an accident. BMW said that there are no reported injuries related to this matter.
The German automaker will notify owners this month, and dealers will attach a clamp to the front seat head restraint posts, free of charge.
The Chrysler Group’s recall concerns 471 units of the 2012 model year Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan, manufactured from March 9, 2012 through March 12, 2012.
The company said that some of these vehicles might be equipped with a right side liftgate pinch sensor that does not function properly, requiring additional force to close.
“These mechanisms are engineered with exacting precision and we expect them to function accordingly; that’s why we are continually monitoring their performance,” said David Dillon, Head of Product Investigation and Campaigns, Chrysler Group LLC.
Chrysler dealers will inspect and if necessary, replace the right side liftgate pinch sensors. The safety recall will begin later this month.
