Volkswagen is preparing for UK’s switch to digital radio by fitting DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting) radios as standard on all 2013-model year cars from the Polo to the Phaeton.
As one would expect, all of the brand’s new DAB audio systems will still be able to pick up conventional FM or AM analogue radio signals, as well as play audio CDs (including MP3 files).
In addition, the German automaker said that all models from the Polo S and upwards will now come equipped with at least six speakers (most models have eight speakers), connected to a standard RCD 310 audio unit or better.
Those that want more from their audio system have several upgrade options such as the multi-device interface, which allows easy connection of iPods or USB sticks, Bluetooth connection of compatible cell phones and higher-end speakers and amplifiers from Danish specialist Dynaudio, just to mention a few.
