If you are looking for a truly unique Mini model to knock you off your socks, forget about the official John Cooper Works variants and the numerous projects presented over the years by the mainstream tuning industry, and check out this 1970’s Austin Mini by Pro-Motive.

What makes this car fascinating is not the fact that it has a different engine, but the type of engine as it is fitted with a rev-crazy, 170HP 1.0-liter inline-four sourced from a 2003 Yamaha YZF-R1 sports bike!

The owner of the car has filmed several videos of the R1-powered Mini including one he shot on Wednesday when he heckled a Lamborghini Gallardo on the highway….

The owner, who uses the nickname Daign on YouTube, notes about the encounter with the Italian exotic:

“I think the Gallardo was a bit confused where the 11000 rev was coming from honestly. Shame we were in traffic. Just for kicks it’d be fun to see how the lambo pulls against the Mini’s powerband between 7-11,500rpm… In the power band it pulls harder than my 500hp Camaro without a doubt. 170hp with only 1300lbs. It’s scary and fun.”
