A Jaguar with a carbon fiber rear wing that would make WRX owners salivate with jealousy? Sure, why not, especially since there’s a perfectly good reason for its presence on the boot.
If you haven’t done so before in our previous postings, meet the XFR-S, which Jaguar never fails to mention that it’s the brands most potent performance sedan ever.
What makes the XFR-S that debuted at the Los Angeles Auto Show this week special is a series of enhancements that go beyond the aesthetics, though as Jaguar points out, the wings and new spoilers that give the saloon a spicier appearance also help reduce lift by an impressive 68 percent.
Compared to the plain-vanilla XFR, power and torque of the S model’s 5.0-litre supercharged V8 have been increased to 542hp (550PS) and 502 lb-ft (680Nm), up 40hp and 41 lb-ft (55Nm) respectively. An eight-speed transmission with ‘Quickshift’ functionality drives the rear tires.
The XFR-S will complete the 0-60mph sprint in 4.4 seconds (0-100km/h in 4.6 seconds) and continue to accelerate on to an electronically limited top speed of 186mph (300km/h).
Other revisions include an uprated suspension and recalibrated Electronic active differential and Dynamic Stability Control systems along with new and wider 20-inch wheels wrapped in bespoke rubber.
You can get a taste of the new XFR-S, of which only 200 cars will be sold in the States, in the video that follows.
