BMW is hard at work developing the next generation of its X5 SUV that was captured here in prototype form by CarScoop reader Peter S. from Hungary while he was visiting the Bavarian capital city of Munich in Germany.
Peter wasn’t able to shoot more pictures of the test car, but under all that swirly camouflage you will find an evolutionary refresh sporting BMW’s more recent styling cues as seen on the F30 3-Series and the F25 X3.
The real important changes for the F15-code-named X5 are hidden below the skin with BMW’s new and lighter “X For All” platform architecture that will help reduce the weight by as much as 150kg or 330 pounds over the current version.
At least in Europe, powertrain options for the new X5 are expected to include BMW’s new 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel and petrol engines, while in other markets such as the U.S., the car will continue to be offered with a selection of straight-six and V8 turbocharged units.
The new X5 will be make its world premiere next year.
Hat tip to Peter S. for the scoop!
