Highlighting Bentley’s presence at this year’s Detroit Motor Show is the new Continental GT Speed Convertible, which with a 4.4-second 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) acceleration time and a 202 mph (325 km/h) top speed is the world’s fastest four-seat open-top model.
The latest offering from Bentley achieves these figures thanks to the twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter W12 that’s “borrowed” from the Continental GT Speed coupe and puts out 616HP (625PS) and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque.
“The new Bentley Continental GT Speed Convertible is a truly breath-taking Grand Tourer, promising supercar performance and high end luxury, with the added thrill of open top motoring”, said Bentley Chairman and CEO Dr. Wolfgang Schreiber during the car’s official presentation at the show. “This unveiling maintains our position as the largest producer of high luxury cars in the world, with our market share continuing to grow.”
Dr. Schreiber also said that 2012 has been “an excellent year” for the company, with global sales rising by 22 percent compared to 2011 to 8,510 units. He added that the U.S. remains Bentley’s number one market, with the 2,315 cars delivered last year accounting for a 23 percent increase.
