We can safely say that McLaren is showing off its upcoming P1 hypercar quite a lot lately – not that we’re complaining, of course. Barely a week after releasing a new video and a set of images of an “XP” (for “experimental”) test car with a black and white camouflage that did nothing to hide its lines, the company chose its 2013 Formula 1 contender’s launch to flaunt the P1 again.

The event that took place at the McLaren Technology Center was supposed to be all about the MP4-28, the F1 team’s weapon in the fight for the title in the hands of Jenson Button and new signing Sergio Perez.

It turned out to be something bigger, though, as the presentation started with a parade of iconic McLaren racers of the past, like the MP4/4 that won all bar one of the 1988 season’s races and both titles, with the late Ayrton Senna clinching his first world championship.

After the cars parked inside the building, the team’s current drivers made their appearance. Perez came first driving an orange MP4-12C Spider, while Button arrived behind the steering wheel of a camouflaged P1 test car.

While nothing new was actually revealed about the P1, seeing the 2009 F1 champion trailing the MP4-12C gave us a clear picture of the Ferrari F150 rival’s dimensions and size. The most striking aspects are its extremely low height, even compared to a supercar like the 12C and how massive that donwforce-generating rear retractable wing is.
