Official photos of the new 2014 Acura MDX Prototype surfaced on the internet today, ahead of the concept’s world premiere at the 2013 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit later today.
As is the case with many recent Acura and Honda concept’s with the “Prototype” designation, the MDX is virtually production ready. Only some of the flashier elements such as the front and rear bumper trims, and the window surrounds will be toned down when it goes on sale towards the end of the year.
Acura’s crossover model will continue to offer seating for seven in three rows of seats with power to likely come from the brand’s updated V6 delivering 310hp.
There’s also the possibility Acura might offer a hybrid variant using the upcoming RLX sedan’s setup linking a 3.5-liter direct-injected VTEC V6 to a 7-speed dual clutch transmission and two or more electric motors, but we’ll know for sure after the presentation.
