Don’t let those tiny wheels with the low-cost hub caps fool you; what you see here is the Combi variant of the new generation of the Skoda Octavia RS (labeled the vRS in Britain), the sedan, or rather liftback version of which, we saw through a series of leaked screenshots from an online car configurator in December.

What you should pay attention to is the large air-vent on the bottom of the modified front bumper with the honeycomb grille and the different rear bumper with a diffuser and twin trapezoidal tail pipes, which prove that this is the new Octavia RS Combi.

Many buyers considered the previous generations of the Octavia RS as the family-orientated version of the Volkswagen Golf GTI, and rightly so, since they shared the same underpinnings and hardware offering more space.

The same applies for the new model as the 2013 Octavia saloon and station wagon are built on an elongated version of the VW Golf Mk7’s MQB platform, with power expected to come from the same 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine as found in the upcoming Golf GTI, producing a peak output of 220PS (217HP) and maximum torque of 350Nm (258 lb-ft).

A six-speed manual or an optional seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission will drive the front wheels.

Skoda is believed to be preparing a diesel-powered version of the Octavia RS as well.
