The Zafira Tourer will be the first vehicle in Opel’s (Vauxhall in Britain) range to feature the GM Europe’s all-new generation diesel, the 1.6 CDTI ECOTEC, which will gradually replace the existing 1.7-liter engines and certain lower powered versions of the 2.0-liter diesel range.

Equipped with Opel’s “BlueInjection” SCR technology (selective catalytic reduction), the new powerplant already meets the strict Euro 6 emissions limits and is billed as the cleanest diesel in Opel’s history.

In this application, the 1.6 CDTi delivers 136PS (134hp) and a peak torque of 320Nm (236 lb-ft) allowing the Zafira Tourer to complete the standard 0-100km/h (62mph) sprint in 10.4 seconds and top out at 193km/h (120mph).

According to Opel, with this engine, the Zafira Tourer people carrier returns a combined fuel economy figure of 4.1lt/100km (equal to 68.9mpg UK and 57.4mpg US), with corresponding CO2 emissions of 109g/km.

The Zafira Tourer 1.6 CDTi will receive its world premiere at the Geneva Auto Salon in March.
