Kia has officially unveiled the sporty GT versions of its Pro_Cee’d and Cee’d three- and five-door compact hatchback that will debut at the Geneva Motor Show. Now, while that may not be the latest piece of news around, the complete list of specifications and the introduction of a limited edition high-spec model are very fresh.

Performance-wise, the GT versions’ 1.6-liter GDI (Gasoline Direct Injection) engine, which features a twin-scroll turbocharger and pumps out 204 PS (201 HP) and 265 Nm (195 lb-ft). Average consumption is 7.4 l/100km (38 mpg UK/ 32 mpg US) and CO2 emissions are 171 g/km.

Kia does not announce any differences in performance between the three- and five-door models, so we can assume the 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) time of 7.7 seconds and 230 km/h (143 mph) top speed applies for both. The manufacturer also mentions the car’s respectable in-gear acceleration times: 60 to 100 km/h (37 to 62 mph) in 5.4 seconds in fourth gear, 80 to 120 km/h (50 to 75 mph) in 7.3 seconds in fifth gear and 8.8 seconds in sixth.

The suspension of the two GTs is revised to handle the extra oomph and the cars get 18-inch alloys with low profile tires to improve their cornering capability over the standard versions. Visually, their new front grille, deeper and lower bumpers, red brake calipers and twin exhausts, distinguishes them from the regular versions.

Kia also announced the Pro_Cee’d GT 1st Edition, of which 500 examples will be made. It is a variant of the GT that doesn’t get any extra power, but an extensive list of standard features which includes adaptive Xenon head lamps, climate control, sat-nav and a large sunroof.

In addition to the standard GT’s bucket seats, aluminum pedals and flat-bottomed steering wheel clad in leather, the 1st Edition offers a numbered plaque, stainless steel scuff plates, red illuminated GT badging and high-quality velour floor mats.

If all this new information has whet your appetite for the hot Kia, you will have to wait until mid-2013 to get one as the Slovakian-made car is scheduled to enter production in May.
