The Pininfarina Sergio, named after the former chairman of the company, who passed away last year, was one of the most striking concepts at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. Its low-slung, windscreen-less roadster body, striking nose and overall barchetta shape bears little resemblance to the Ferrari 458 on which it’s based.
Luckily, you might just get to see one of these on the road, in the not-so-distant future, as a report from Autonews Europe indicates that it may enter a very limited production run of no more than six examples.
Priced at around €3 million ($3.9 million / £2.6 million), a total of five or six units would be built, but if were to be made exactly like the concept, then European Union regulations would require the driver to wear a helmet – who’d want to wear a helmet after paying that much?
However, if it gets the green light, chances are that the car will be toned down from its concept form, and it will definitely be getting a windscreen. According to Pininfarina’s chief designer, Fabio Filippini, they already have a pretty good idea of what to modify to make the car EU-compliant, and road-legal.
Even if it gets toned down a notch over the concept, it would still be an awesome sight on the road, especially since it will always be accompanied by the Ferrari-sourced screaming 4.3-liter V8.
