Over the past few months, we’ve had plenty of opportunities to see the new BMW 4-Series Coupe from the outside, but never on the inside, until now, that is, as our automotive 007s were able to sneak up and capture a few shots of a prototype’s cabin.
If you were expecting something different from the F30 3-Series sedan, then you will be disappointed, but to be fair, BMW did warn us about the similarities between the two models with the 4-Series Coupe Concept displayed at the Detroit motor show in January.
The differences with the concept are limited to the less extravagant materials and the simpler seat and dash trims of the production car, with the model seen here featuring a two-tone color theme for the dashboard, sport seats with accent stitching and a 6-speed manual gearbox. Unlike the F30 sedan, the 4-Series will have two separate seats at the back instead of a three-passenger seat bench.
Moving on to the exterior, from the close up shots we see that the production model gets more plain looking round headlamps (the concept had differently shaped Adaptive LED units) and tail light fixtures.
The two-door coupe is rumored to enter production later in the summer with the launch range to include the 428i powered by a 2.0-liter turbo’d four (likely delivering 240hp), and the 435i fitted with a 3.0-liter turbocharged straight six (with 300hp unless BMW uses its more potent 315hp unit), both available with RWD or optional AWD (xDrive). A convertible version will follow in the fall.
