One of the worst things about impressive concept cars such as the new Subaru WRX that was by far, the most talked about (in a very positive way) world premiere at the recent 2013 New York Auto Show, is when carmakers water down the design on their production iterations.
Could this be the case with the upcoming Subaru WRX? Well, if the camouflaged Subaru prototype that our scoop photographers just captured in Germany is indeed the WRX, then the answer is yes, as there’s no denying that it follows in the footsteps of its predecessors simply wearing a sportier kit over the regular Impreza sedan’s body.
It also gets a different front-end design, including a restyled and more upright grille and bespoke headlamps, but overall, the design has nothing in common with the WRX Concept, which has us thinking that there’s a possibility that this may not be the production model of the striking study after all.
This logically leads us to our next question: what else could it be? Well, Subaru could be either working on two separate models, an Impreza Sedan WRX and a WRX / STi, or this is a test mule for the production WRX Concept.
Since we just received these pictures, it’s too early to have a definitive answer to all these questions, but we will try to find more information and pass it on to you as soon as we get it.
