Geely Automobile Group of China has revealed an all-electric vehicle dubbed the EC7-EV, based on the brand’s Emgrand EC7 model. What’s interesting about the model is the badge it bears, which says “Detroit Electric Technology,” which apparently means it was jointly-developed by the two companies.
Work on the car began some three years ago, and the EC7-EV is set to go on sale in China in the first quarter of next year. Geely claims it wants to sell 3,000 units in the first 12 months, a figure which it expects to grow to 30,000 in three years’ time.
The official blurb sates that “the new EC7-EV model will offer both medium-range (with a driving range of 165km per charge) and long-range options (an approximate range of 258km per charge),” which means the car gets an optional higher capacity battery pack.
Also, performance has not been neglected, and it can apparently sprint to 100 km/h (62 mph) in under eight seconds, with a top speed of 200 km/h or 124 mph.
This car also makes the partnership between the two companies official, with this beginning to paint a picture for what Detroit Electric’s future models may be all about. Plus, since their first new model since 1939 is basically a Lotus, they don’t seem to have problems with rebadging…
