Did you know that Mercedes-Benz has never offered a four-cylinder petrol unit for its GLK compact luxury SUV – up until now, that is? Well, that’s about to change as beginning from June this year, European consumers will be able to order the updated model in GLK 250 4MATIC trim, which sports a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four gasoline engine producing 208hp (211PS) and 350Nm (258 lb-ft) of peak torque.
The engine comes fitted with an ECO start/stop function as standard and is connected to a seven-speed 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission that turns all four wheels.
According to the Stuttgart-based carmaker, the new GLK 250 4MATIC accelerates from zero to 100 km/h (62mph) in 7.9 seconds and can reach a top speed of 215 km/h (134mph). It returns an NEDC combined fuel consumption of 7.7 to 7.5 liters of unleaded petrol per 100 kilometers (180-176 g CO2/km), equal to 31.4mpg – 30.6mpg US and 37.7mpg – 36.7mpg UK.
From June 2013, the GLK model range in Europe will comprise a total of six diesel models and two petrol models, all of which will be equipped with the latest generation of infotainment systems.
The new GLK 250 4MATIC has a starting price of €44,149 incl. VAT (equal to US$57,800) for the German market.
