Honda and its local partners presented several new cars at the ongoing Shanghai Auto Show including the CRIDER compact sedan, the production-intent M minivan study and in this case, the Jade people carrier, the styling of which bears a passing resemblance to the European market Civic Wagon Concept.
The Jade is the completely down to earth production version of the far more provocatively styled Concept S from last year’s edition of the Auto China motor show.
According to Honda, “the Jade was designed to match the tastes of Chinese customers born in 1980s who are energetic and known for pursuing their dreams.” The Japanese carmaker added that, while the new Jade was developed primarily for the Chinese market, it was designed as a global car, meaning it might be sold in other countries as well.
Production of the car will take place at Honda’s Dongfeng Honda Automobile Co. joint-venture plant in China, with sales to start in the country in September this year.
