We didn’t know what to make of the Lamborhini Egoista concept when we first heard about it. We thought the mad Veneno was enough to celebrate the brand’s 50th anniversary, but apparently it wasn’t. Now that we’ve had a good look at its attack helicopter-inspired looks, orange details and uber-angular styling, we’re actually more impressed with this than we were with the Veneno.
Designed by Walter da Silva, the VW group’s leading design force, the Egoista just exudes menace, and it’s probably one of the meanest and most aggressive-looking cars I’ve ever seen. There’s just nothing like the narrow cockpit flanked by rocket or machinegun pods, with the proper kick in the back ensured by the 5.2-liter V10 engine (sourced from the Gallardo), which is said to deliver exactly 600 horsepower.
Inside the car, you could very well be in an Apache helicopter. The concept gets a heads-up display (HUD) that looks exactly like what you’d expect to see in a dogfight movie set fifty years into the future from the present moment. The steering wheel also looks nice, albeit useless in real life driving, and I particularly like the dashboard, which is an X-brace made out of carbon fiber.
Before I conclude this piece, one more connection needs to be made; since the company announced that the Gallardo is going away soon, perhaps if the driver’s seat is moved to one side, and another place is added alongside it, what we would end up is a possible futuristic preview for the baby Lambo’s replacement.
