The new 991-based 911 Turbo is shaping up to be quite a machine. While its most recent predecessors have been good cars, they seem to lack the appeal of the base models or the lightweight GT2 and GT3 models. The Turbo has never been as precise a driving machine as the traditional rear-wheel drive models, but according to Road&Track, there is a lot to look forward to with the new model.

To make their intention of putting the Turbo back on the map, Porsche is making it even wider than the Carrera 4, which is already plumper than the base 911. Also, in order to always keep the 520 hp (or 560 hp in the Turbo S) in check, all Turbos will come fitted exclusively with Porsche’s PDK transmission, which will work in tandem with a new computer-controlled water-cooled Haldex central differential.

It was previously reported that the new GT3 would be getting one too, so it’s no real surprise…

The new model is said to use some 13 percent less gasoline, which is partly down to the entire car being more efficient, with better engine management, the use of electric power steering and a stop/start system, as well as “virtual-gear programming,” which will allow the engine to spin at around 1,000 rpm without a hitch – perfect for entering your garage at night without waking your neighbors.

All of that is said to translate into a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) time of around 3 seconds dead, and a top speed that is limited by the tires to 315 km/h (197 mph) – it can reportedly top 330 km/h or 207 mph with more durable rubber.
