We weren’t supposed to see the updated BMW M5 just yet, but it seems that the people behind the brand’s German online configurator either wanted us to see the car early or they made a mistake…Either way, these are the first official shots of the facelifted, performance edition of the 5-Series.

As usual with these BMW LCIs (lifecycle impulse), the changes are subtle and hard to spot if you don’t really know the old car well. Still, we spot a redesigned grille, very subtle work on the headlights and rear lights, as well as revised mirror caps.

Closer examination of the front reveals that the trademark kidney grille has been reshaped, and it now gets new vertical bars, one of which holds the M badge – like on the M6.

They’ve also made some subtle updates inside the car, the most visible and notable addition being the steering wheel, which also appears to have been lifted straight out of the M6. Completing the list of interior mods is the new revised iDrive unit, which apparently now is touch-sensitive.

Expect to see the updated M5 make its official appearance later in the year, with a retail price of €103,300 in Germany.
