Two down, five more to go – we’re referring to the body styles of the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class family, as we already know that the German premium carmaker plans to expand the range of its flagship series to include a total of seven different models. This week, we witnessed the world premiere of the first two members of the S-Class clan, the regular- and long-wheelbase sedans.
So, what’s next? Well, we’ve seen limousine style prototypes as well as the coupe variants that will replace the current CL-Class models, while the talk on the street is that we will see at least one four-seater convertible, possibly two if the rumors about a sedan-cabriolet turn out to be true. For the time being, we’re going to concentrate on the new S-Class Coupe that our spies nabbed testing on public roads.
While it features the S-Class instead of the CL-Class moniker, Mercedes’ new entry in the luxury four-seater coupe segment will actually have a sportier looking body and lines than the car it replaces, thanks in part to its proportions and a narrower glasshouse with a more sloping rear windscreen.
It’s underpinnings, engine range and the multitude of technological, safety, and comfort features ranging from heated armrests to several hundred LEDs in the cabin and for the exterior lights, and the Magic Ride Control system that makes use of cameras that scan the road to adjust suspension settings, will all be shared with the S-Class sedans.
Naturally, the S-Class Coupe will be offered with the more powerful V8 and V12 units, both in regular and boosted AMG guises reaching up to around 630-horses.
If Mercedes doesn’t surprise us at one of the international motor shows this fall, then expect to see the new S-Class making its world premiere next year.
