The Auris Hybrid hatch has only been on the European market for a few months, yet Toyota has already made changes to the car improving its green credentials.

The new modifications that were first previewed on the 85g/km Auris Hybrid Touring Sports, which was launched in production trim at the Geneva Motor Show in March this year, drop the Auris Hybrid Icon hatchback’s CO2 emissions (combined) from 89g/km to 84g/km. The emissions of Excel models, however, remain unchanged at 91g/km.

Toyota said it was able to achieve these results by “refining the vehicle tuning and adopting various aerodynamic improvements such as new aero-stabilising fins in the rear glazing”, adding that these changes do not negatively affect vehicle performance.

The more eco-friendly versions of the Auris Hybrid Hatch will go on sale in the UK this June.

According to Toyota, Auris sales in general are up 27 percent during the first quarter of 2013 in Europe, and 31 percent in the UK, with the full-hybrid variant having increased its sales 69 percent year-on-year.
