It seems that EV buyers from California see the sense made by the battery-powered Fiat 500e, which is exclusively sold in the sunny West Side state, because according to a report from Wards Auto, they have sold out the production run for the remainder of the year. However, it isn’t specified exactly how many that means – can’t be a lot, since it’s only been available since April.
The report quotes Jason Stoicevich, who is president and CEO of Fiat in North America, stating that the 500e is trying to break into a “huge, import-dominated market,” which is “alive and well in California,” and concentrates 28 dealerships, or over 10 percent of 205-strong network.
We really don’t blame those who acquired one of these cars, even if it’s quite dear, requiring you to part with $32,500. With tax credits or rebates factored in, the price drops to a much more manageable $20,000-ish, or you can always lease the car if you leave a $999 down payment and then have $199 deducted from your account every month.
The 500e has 111 hp on tap and a 147 lb-ft of torque, while its range can reach 100 miles (160 km) – the EPA-certified number is 87 miles.
