Radical doesn’t normally make coupes, or ones with proper road-car engines as a matter of fact. However, with their new RXC, the very latest model, the aim is to have a good balance of road and track performance, and while the car may not be fully ready for sale, the hard work has been done, and fine-tuning is what’s been left to do.
XCAR had the chance to see what the new Radical is like. For a start, it is a hardtop coupe, something quite unusual for what we thought was the maker of open-top racing cars, but you wouldn’t really want to take one on the road for fear of being squashed by a bus.
Gone is the Suzuki Hayabusa engine the first Radicals were renowned for, and in its place, is something much meatier – a 3.7-liter V6 out of the Ford Mustang, which in this state of tune, makes 380 hp. However, the car itself has grown a bit too, compared to what the company regularly makes, tipping the scales at just over 900 kg. Still, it reaches 62 mph (100 km/h) in 2.8 seconds and has a top speed of 175 mph (280 km/h) – most mainstream sports cars would not be able to touch it.
The RXC is not yet fully-developed, and it is currently being honed for road use, as the company really wants this to be more of a usable package than what they normally make. Check out the XCAR video below, as well as an official clip from Radical itself.
