A dangerous ride that took place in and around the McCarran Airport Connector Tunnel in Las Vegas last week was captured on a motorcycle rider’s helmet mounted camera.
In the video we see a silver Chevrolet Cavalier sedan driving among a group of motorcyclists who themselves had spread out on all lanes of the road. After clipping one of the bikers, he continues to drive recklessly and eventually, hits and knocks down two motorcyclists in the tunnel.
“Just wiped out my client completely, just took him out,” attorney Stephen Stubbs, who represents one of the riders hit by the car, told Fox5 news. “I think the video shows, to me at least, that it’s intentional,” he added.
The Cavalier driver leaves the scene but is chased to the airport parking lot by several riders before they call the cops. To their surprise, though, the police gave the biker who had been hit a ticket and let the driver go!
“I have no idea why, but police actually gave my client a reckless driving ticket and let the other guy go,” Stubbs said.
However, according to Cycle School instructor Victor Moss, who watched the video, the motorcyclists are at fault as well. “No question about it, he let his bad judgment get the better of him,” Moss told the TV station adding that the bikers should have never boxed the car. “If a car wants to get through, back off, let him through. They may be trying to get to an exit,” Moss said.
Stubbs insisted that the riders were not at fault as they were intentionally boxing the car after the first clipping so he wouldn’t run away. “They weren’t letting him go. They wanted him to stop because he had just caused a collision,” he told Fox5.
