The C30 will definitely be missed, with its competent Ford Focus underpinnings, which made it quite a handler, solid Volvo interior and of course, the exterior design. Now, it has been pulled from the production line, without getting a direct replacement – yet.

However, it will not be forgotten by many, especially after seeing monstrous concept by Polestar, which gave the C30 all-wheel drive and 405 hp, as well as a body kit and unique shade of blue. That car was well received, and it spurred the Swedes to create the T5 M R-Design Polestar Edition, which is a toned down (but still exciting) version of the concept.

Now, it and its 2.5-liter turbocharged engine have been put to the test by Winding Road Magazine who have done one of their trademark POV test drives.

You may think that the C30 isn’t really that exciting, but you’d be wrong, especially when talking about this special Polestar edition. It is the last small car to my knowledge to be powered by Volvo’s renowned five-pot motor, which in this final application was tuned to make 250 hp – it is the last of its kind…

The first thing I’d do, if I were to own one of these, is do something about the intake and exhaust, and make it louder – the engine sounds very nice stock, but a bit more induction noise and a rumbly aftermarket exhaust will work wonders. Still, the engine may be loud enough for some in its stock form – check it out by scrolling down and clicking play.
