The new 2014 Ram 1500 is definitely a contender in the hugely-competitive pickup truck market, and while it trails some of its rivals in a few areas, the downsides are not really that significant, and according to Consumer Reports, it’s a very worthy buy, especially after it has been incrementally improved over the years, with most of its faults being ironed out.

It benefits from a lot of modern tech too, like a touchscreen infotainment system that works, a part-digital customizable gauge cluster and an 8-speed automatic gearbox. Furthermore, the quick review posted below says it has one of the best rides in the sector, with coil springs on the back helping it achieve great refinement for any car, let alone a rugged utilitarian pickup.

A diesel engine will also be made available under the bonnet of the Ram 1500 for the first time in over thirty years. The Italian-made three-liter unit is exactly the same as that found under the bonnet of the Jeep Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel, and it will be paired to an eight-cog self-shifter, so it should be by far the easiest on the wallet at the pump.

In addition, I think it is also the most imposing of the current crop of similar-sized pickups, helped in no small part by the massive grille – even the Ram badge adds to the same overall effect.
