Japanese automakers never really achieved any notable success in naming their cars and Subaru isn’t exactly helping change that notion with the new WRX STI tS TYPE RA, which is a special edition version of its high-performance Impreza sedan made exclusively for the local market.
Did we mention that there’s also an optionally available package, with which the car’s name becomes the “Subaru WRX STI tS TYPE RA NBR CHALLENGE PACKAGE”?
But enough with the name calling. The new WRX model will be made in a strictly limited production of 300 cars, with Subaru to open the order books on August 23 and stop accepting orders on December 23, 2013.
Like many other special edition Subarus, the WRX STI tS TYPE RA is characterized by the selection of colors, which in this case, includes a Pearl White, Tangerine Orange Pearl and the brand’s trademark blue hue, and a number of performance and styling extras.
In particular, the WRX STI tS TYPE RA gains new suspension pieces from STI including different struts and coil springs, a braking system from Brembo with gold-colored calipers (6-piston up front, 2-piston at the back), 18-inch black alloy wheels from STI, a more direct steering system, a front lip spoiler, special badges, new leather steering wheel and gear knob with red stitching, bucket seats and sill plates.
The optional NBR (for Nürburgring) CHALLENGE PACKAGE adds a dry carbon rear spoiler, 18-inch BBS wheels, special decals and RECARO-made bucket type front seats.
In Japan, prices range from 4.41 million yen to 5.082 million yen (US$44,000 to US$51,000).
