The current Suzuki Swift’s lineup has become a little more interesting after the addition of a new 4×4 model for the UK market. Already available in Japan as well as several European Countries including Germany and Switzerland, the new Swift 4×4 goes on sale in Britain this month with a 1.2-litre petrol engine and five doors in either SZ3 or SZ4 grades.
What separates the new edition from the other Swift models is the fully automatic and permanent 4-wheel drive system that transfers additional torque to the rear wheels when necessary through a viscous coupling, plus a slightly increased body ride height of 25mm.
In the case of the SZ4 grade, there’s also a crossover-style bodykit that adds front and rear skid plates, black wheel arch extensions and black side skirts, for a more rugged look.
Suzuki says the Swift 4×4 is 65kg (143 pounds) heavier than an equivalent 2WD petrol model, while CO2 emissions are 10g/km higher at 126g/km.
Prices for the 4WD Swift are set at £11,516 for the base SZ3 and £13,116 for the better specified SZ4 model that includes power folding door mirrors with integral indicators and Daylight Running Lamps as standard equipment.
