One has to dig deep to find rides that are more American than hot rods – pickup trucks would probably come a close second (at least in my book).
You have to admit there’s something really special about a pre-World War 2 car that goes like thunder and looks so different from anything else on the road. Of course, safety was not a primary concern when these vehicles were built, so one has to take some risks when driving these beauties.
You also have to be really committed to drive this particular 1922 Ford hot rod which is really cramped inside, at least for Mike Musto, Drive’s hot rod and muscle car specialist. As he is 6 ft 4 (193 cm), the man found out that the only way to drive it is to sit on the right side of the front bench, pressing the gas pedal with the right foot, the brake with the left foot and holding the steering wheel with the left hand…
