Martin and Friedhelm, the two brothers behind the Wiesmann sports car brand, seem to have it wrong this year, as reports are just in that they have filed for insolvency at their local court in Münster. Founded in 1988, the company first began building custom hardtops for convertibles, making their first car in 1993. Their current range consisted of three models, all of which used BMW powertrain components.
It is unclear what exactly happened, but things didn’t go according to plan at all… Back in 2010, they announced their intention to start exporting cars to the US, but found that the costs associated with making their offerings legal Stateside were insurmountable for a small company such as themselves, and the idea was dropped.
Currently, they have been appointed a provisional administrator and that’s about all we can tell you for now. This is one of those stories which will get at least one follow-up, so once we learn something new, we will update this story.
