The success of B-segment or sub-compact crossover models like the Nissan Juke and GM’s trio of CUVs, the Opel / Vauxhall Mokka, Buick Encore and Chevrolet Trax, is forcing other automakers to take notice and prepare their responses.
At next month’s Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany, Kia will introduce an as-of-yet unnamed concept, which it says, will be a “playful but gutsy, sturdy yet impish” study hinting “at a possible future B-segment contender ready to take on the urban environment with style and tenacity”.
The two design renderings suggest Kia’s has opted for a more futuristic take on the segment, with the Korean maker stating that the concept “has been created in Europe with European tastes and expectations very much in mind”.
For what it’s worth, Kia pointed out that it has no current plans for production of the specific study, however, it will use the Frankfurt Motor Show to gauge potential customer response for a future showroom model (read much milder looking).
