After failing to bring Saab back to life, Victor R. Muller has placed most of his efforts to expand the lineup of Dutch sports car maker Spyker of which he is the co-founder and current CEO.
At the Pebble Beach Concours D’Elegance in California today, Muller presented the B6 Venator Spyder Concept, which comes five months after the reveal of the coupe iteration at the 83rd International Geneva Motor Show.
“Reaction to the coupe version in Geneva was so overwhelmingly positive that we accelerated our initial plan to deliver the SPYKER B6 VENATOR SPYDER Concept,” commented Spyker Chief Commercial Officer John Walton. “This is an exquisite drop-top that begs to be driven on the Pacific Coast Highway –yet will provide more exclusivity than any other sports car it will pass on the road.”
Both concept versions of Spyker’s Porsche 911-rivaling B6 series are scheduled to enter production in late 2014 for key markets around the world including Europe, the Middle East, Asia Pacific and India, followed by the US in early 2015. Spyker said the B6 should retail at around $150,000 or £95,000 / €110,000.
The open top version of the B6 Venator series shares the same aluminium rear-drive architecture with a 375bhp-plus mid-mounted V6 connected to a six-speed automatic gearbox as the coupe. Spyker said that despite the use of a folding roof mechanism, the kerb weight comes in at “less than 1400kg” (3086 pounds), the same figure quoted for the coupe. The same applies to the Spyder’s dimensions at 4,347mm (171.2 inches) long and 1,882mm (74.1 inches) wide.
