Mere days after we posted the story of a 34-year-old woman who severely crashed her Tesla Model S, walking away unscathed, and proving it was quite safe, the NHTSA has revealed that the all-electric sedan is, in fact, the safest car they’ve ever tested.

After being proclaimed to also have been the best Consumer Reports ever tested too, this is excellent news for Tesla, which is riding the waves of positive reviews, spreading word about their car around the world…

The company’s only model did well in each and every single test the NHTSA put it through, and its lack of a bulky engine up front allowed it to absorb the frontal impacts much better, as there was no heavy lump to be pushed into the passenger compartment. Tesla explains that the five-star rating and best-ever award are no accident, as they have intentionally designed the vehicle to not just withstand the regular government tests, but to be as strong and safe regardless of the type of impact it would be involved in.

In other news, Green Car Reports unearthed a link leading to information about a patent filing carried out by Tesla on August 5, when they filed for “Model E.” No word is out on what it could be used for, though, but it may very well be the 3-Series rival, the logical next step once the Model X crossover is added to the lineup.
