We recently caught a few glimpses of the next addition to BMW‘s newly baptized 4-Series range after the Coupe, the four-seater Convertible with the hardtop in place protecting the cabin and its passengers from the elements of the weather.

This time, our scoop photographers pinpointed BMW’s engineers testing the 4er Convertible in Europe with very little camouflage and most importantly, its three-piece electric-folding metal roof neatly packaged in the boot, which understandably, will have a smaller capacity than the coupe’s.

This particular prototype was equipped with the optionally available M Sport styling and suspension kit that adds a little zest to the open-top model’s appearance with different bumpers, side sills and bigger wheels.

You may not get the 3-Series name any more, but buyers of the 4-Series will get everything else found in the sedan and touring models of BMW’s bestselling car, from the interior styling to the range of engines that will include 2.0-liter inline four and 3.0-liter inline-six turbocharged petrols in North America, with Europe also gaining additional frugal four-cylinder diesels.

About a year or so after its introduction this fall, BMW will also present a high-performance M4 variant.
