While taking high-resolution shots of a Jaguar F-Type V8 prototype running around on the Nürburgring, our spies noticed something that couldn’t be seen on the same test car filmed by Carscoops’ reader Timo back in July on the same track: the huge carbon ceramic brakes with the yellow calipers and cross-drilled brake rotors, which look awfully similar to the ones fitted on the limited edition XKR-S GT.
The reason why this detail is important is that Jaguar fits these kinds of brakes to its higher-performance models, meaning that the prototype we originally thought to be the F-Type S Coupe with a 488HP (495PS) supercharged V8, might very well be a tester for the rumored “R” version.
If it’s indeed the “R” model, then it will come with a tauter suspension and more direct steering wheel systems, while power will likely be provided from the same boosted 5.0-liter supercharged V8 engine developing 542hp (550PS) found in the XKR-S and XKR-S GT.
The F-Type Coupe is pegged to go on sale in the second half of 2014.
