If you’re not familiar with Volkswagen’s Golf Plus series, it’s essentially a high-roofline version of the compact model with added flexibility and a bigger boot, that fills the gap between hatchbacks and pure minivans like the German brand’s Touran.
The new Plus model, which is based on the seventh-generation Golf riding on VW’s vaunted new MQB modular platform architecture, will follow the same recipe, maintaining the wheelbase and width of the regular hatchback, while gaining a few inches in height and perhaps a bit in length.
It’s boot capacity will sit between the regular Golf hatchback and the new Golf Variant (station wagon) offering the added bonus of fully adjustable rear seats that will allow users to increase or decrease luggage and rear passenger space according to their needs.
This more spacious version of the seventh-gen Golf will adopt most of the standard car’s lower-to-mid-output powertrains. It is also likely to form the base for a replacement for the more rugged-looking CrossGolf.
