Kia has introduced the 2014 model year version of the Sportage, which comes with new comfort and convenience features, as well as (very) subtle design enhancements for the U.S. market.
Available in three trim levels (LX, EX and SX), the 2014 model is equipped with additional standard components, such as the high performance dampers (previously only on EX and SX models) and a tilt and telescopic steering column. Furthermore, all trims now have standard rear ventilation and reclining outboard seats.
The EX trim gains standard heated front seats, Infinity Premium Audio, auto-dimming mirror with Homelink and heated outside mirrors. There’s also an available Premium package that includes ventilated front seats, navigation with SiriusXM Traffic, leather-trimmed seats, panoramic sunroof, smart key with push button start, and power-folding outside mirrors.
EX and SX models come equipped with UVO eServices, an evolution of Kia’s telematics system that adds a new telematics suite (“eServices”) enabled by a free smartphone app that provides drivers with in-vehicle connectivity including diagnostics capabilities and added convenience features. The system is available as a package on the base LX trim.
In terms of design, the 2014 Kia Sportage features a subtly redesigned grille and new fog lamps on the EX trim.
It will be available with the same engines as before: a 176hp 2.4-liter four-cylinder, standard on the LX and EX trims, and a 256hp 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, standard on the SX model. The latter is linked to a six-speed automatic transmission and is available in both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive versions. The FWD model returns 22mpg in the city (10.7 lt/100km) and 27mpg on the highway (8.7lt/100km).
Pricing for the 2014 Kia Sportage has yet to be announced.
