Kia says that the all-new Soul has a “smooth new look inspired by the Track’ster concept,” but I really don’t see it. To me, it looks like the first Soul, that has been given an extensive makeover to keep up with changing design trends and keep things fresh.

However, Kia reps would be quick to contradict you, saying that this new Soul, which they call an Urban Utility Vehicle, rides on new platform that, well, is better (because it’s new?), its body shell is stiffer and suspension setup upgraded. They’d tell you that all of these changes make the car more enjoyable to drive, and more comfy at the same time.

The cabin is also said to be noticeably quieter, with better soundproofing, and even softer-touch materials on the most visible surfaces – it is meant to feel more upmarket, high-tech and roomier than before.

The differences in dimensions aren’t immediately obvious, but if you were to put this new model alongside the old one, you’d almost be able to tell it’s wheelbase is 20 mm longer, as is the overall length (now 4,140 mm) – this means that the overhangs are exactly the same as on the old one.

Moreover, it gets a wider tailgate and a four percent larger boot that comes with “additional underfloor storage” too. The engine range will be unchanged, though, and you’ll be able to choose any petrol or diesel engine you can think of, just as long as it displaces no more or no less than 1.6 liters.
