For Bugatti, each and every new Veyron that leaves the factory is not only a new model, but a special edition, which more often than not, justifies its uniqueness to the color choices of the interior and exterior.
Over the course of the next few months, we’ll be seeing several new special editions of the Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse created under the “Bugatti Legends” banner commemorating influential people behind the brand.
After the first example dedicated to Bugatti racing driver Jean-Pierre Wimille that was revealed at Pebble Beach last month, the Molsheim, France-based automaker released the second model of the series that pays tribute to Jean Bugatti, son of the company founder and creator of the Type 57SC Atlantic.
Scheduled for an international premiere at this week’s Frankfurt Motor Show, the “Jean Bugatti” Grand Sport Vitesse will be limited to three examples (just like all other five models in the Legend series), each priced at €2.28 million (about $3 million or £1.92 million), not including tax and other charges.
Built on the Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse featuring an 8.0-liter W16 engine with 1,184hp (1,200PS) and 1,500Nm (1,106 lb-ft) torque for 0 to 100 km/h (62mph) sprint in 2.6 seconds, the “Jean Bugatti” is said to have been designed to “follow the concept of the Type 57SC Atlantic La Voiture Noire, as closely as possible”.
The body is constructed entirely from jet black, clear-coated carbon fibre, with the horseshoe grille and EB logo on the back made from platinum (used for the first time on a Bugatti). It also rides on black diamond-cut rims and the signature of Jean Bugatti has been laser-etched onto the petrol and oil cap and painted in a special grey finish.
Inside, Bugatti’s designers outfitted the cabin in special leather featuring the same beige and chocolate brown tones that were present in the Type 57SC Atlantic. Other highlights include the decorative stitching, bespoke embroidery on the doors and the cover of the rear storage compartment, and the rosewood veneered selector lever.
