Next week’s 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show is the event of choice for Alpina to host the world premiere of it’s new BMW 3-Series-based D3 Bi-Turbo saloon and Touring models.
The German maker dropped the first photos of the two diesel-powered cars and also released preliminary specifications. The big news is that unlike the outgoing 2.0-liter four-cylinder E90-based models, the F30-based D3s make use of a 3.0-liter straight-six turbocharged diesel, the same one found under the hoods of the XD3 SUV and D5 Bi-Turbo.
As such, it delivers an output of 345hp (350PS) and 700Nm (516 lb-ft) of peak torque allowing the new D3 B-Turbo to reach 100km/h (62mph) from standstill in just 4.6 seconds and top out at 278km/h (173 mph), all while returning a fuel consumption of 5.3l/100km (44.4mpg US or 53.3 mpg UK) on the combined cycle with CO2 emissions of 139 g/km.
The Alpina treatment also includes some subtle touches on the outside such as the brand’s signature multuspoke alloy wheels, and front and rear aprons, a re-trimmed interior and a host of chassis upgrades that will be detailed in Frankfurt.
