Whoever said most public service advertisements (PSA) are unattractive, prudish and often outright boring is probably right, but there are some striking exceptions to the rule, like this new ad made for the New Zealand Transport Agency named “Blazed — Drug-Driving in Aotearoa”, with Aotearoa being the most widely known and accepted Māori name for New Zealand.
Created by award winning film director Taika Waititi and released on Māori Television, the PSA “aims to reach people who drive after using cannabis” with “the goal of the campaign is to encourage people to consider whether driving stoned is really safe”, according to the producers.
The short film depicts three Māori children initially bragging about their dads but eventually understanding and pointing out the dangers of their drug-induced behavior behind the steering wheel.
