The motor show sidelines are an amazing place to learn new information from the industry – heck, some of it is so fresh and radical, it eventually fails to materialize, despite being passed on at the time with no intention to deceive. We therefore look with great interest and a little bit of skepticism at what Auto Express found out when speaking to Nissan’s development boss, Andy Palmer, at the Frankfurt motor show.
He explained that the manufacturer is really interested in delivering a new sports car, but it will be different to the current 370Z, and more importantly, it will not resemble the Toyota GT86 in any way.
Said to be smaller than the current Z-car, the new model will apparently be borrowing Juke Nismo styling cues, and with a bit of electrification thrown into the mix will not necessarily be a traditional sports car.
Under the bonnet, the report suggests we could see a “downsized turbocharged petrol engine,” plus the electric boost, though it’s not clear where it will sit in terms of actual measurable performance.
Finally, it is said to be previewed by a concept that Nissan will be revealing at the Tokyo motor show, at the middle of November. We are intrigued and will be keeping a close eye for any more news on this matter.
