General Motors has announced the recall of exactly 21,721 full-sized pickups on the grounds of them having been fitted with seats that may not meet federal regulation for rear impact safety. The vehicles involved are the new GMC Sierra and Chevy Silverado pickups, both from the 2014 model year, and only the ones that have manually-adjusting seat backs are involved.

Despite the fact that so far no injuries have been linked to this defect, dealers are required to inspect the seats, and modify them when and if necessary, obviously, at no charge to the owners, other than having to waste some of their time taking their new pickup to be serviced before term.

Of the affected vehicles, 18,972 are located in the US, 2,575 in Canada, 103 in Mexico, as well as a number of 71 vehicles that have left the American continent altogether. Since this is a safety-related recall, it will probably be carried out as quickly.

It’s not the first recall to affect the current-shape Serra and Silverado, as 843 of them had been called back this July for airbag-related issues.
