Warning: The following videos might lead you to an eBay quest for a classic RWD Japanese model
If our story on the ever so lightly enhanced Toyota Crown earlier today stirred up some nostalgia for Japanese sedans, you’re not alone. It all so happened that we stumbled upon some entertaining videos involving another classic Japanese model, one that has ceased to exist as a nameplate since the mid-1990s: a Toyota Cressida saloon from 1977.
This particular car is the famed Underground Garage “Shakotan” JZX30 Toyota Cressida built and owned by Norwegian drifter Fredrik Sørlie, who swapped the original engine for a newer 2JZ-GE (found in a number of models including the Toyota Supra MK IV, Lexus IS 300 and yes, the Toyota Crown).
In stock form, the 3.0-liter straight six makes 220hp (223PS), but we don’t know if Sørlie has fiddled around with it.
